Abstract
This thesis will analyse the historical change in animal representation from 1950-2000 in wildlife films narrated by David Attenborough. The two series I have chosen to focus on are Zoo Quest (aired from 1950s to the early 60s) and Planet Earth (aired 2006). Of the historical studies that have been conducted on wildlife films (Bouse 2000, Chris 2006, Mitman 2009), the focus has been exclusively the American wildlife film tradition. However, in the UK, one name is synonymous with the wildlife film tradition: David Attenborough.
