Abstract

In the first part of this dissertation the theoretical basis of a large number of writings on imagery is discussed, and some proposals made for a wider definition of poetic imagery and a new concept of dramatic imagery relevant to the criticism of poetic drama.
The second part of the dissertation consists of analyses of the dramatic imagery of five plays.
