Abstract

This thesis is submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Clin.Psy.D.) at the University of Birmingham.

This thesis comprises three chapters. The first chapter is a systematic review examining the relationship between post-natal maternal anxiety and child somatic, developmental and psychological outcomes. The second chapter is a qualitative study exploring the emotional impact of Phenylketonuria (PKU) in pregnancy and how this affects the developing maternal-infant relationship. The third chapter is a press briefing document, which provides accessible summaries of the systematic review and the qualitative study.
