Abstract

This research provides a conceptual methodological framework which consists of series of identified drivers that have direct or indirect impact over transportation and over embankments. This conceptual methodological framework can be used to assess the impact of Drivers of Change over transportation and over embankments but it also be used to test resilience of road embankments via future scenario making approach.

This research first looked at reviewing various interpretations of resilience and has established a workable definition of resilience; it has then reviewed key issues related to geotechnical assets - specifically road embankments and their loss of performance, then has assessed the impact of key Drivers of Change on transportation. It has then linked the resilience to 4 future scenarios making to establish a methodological framework for resilience. In addition, 3 case studies are provided to demonstrate how the methodological framework could be used to assess impacts from Drivers of Change to transportation and to embankments both in the present and in the future using future scenarios.
