Abstract
This master thesis describes my work as a Ph.D. student in the laboratory of the Quantum Gases group during one and a half year. The experiment creates spinor Bose-Einstein condensates of ∼10\(^5\) atoms with a repetition rate of 12 seconds, using all-optical methods. I report a full description of the elements and techniques involved. My main contribution has been the building of a phase-imprinting apparatus in order to study different topological defects in the condensate. Currently, the apparatus is still in the testing phase, therefore I had the opportunity to reproduce only some initial results on the creation of solitons
