Abstract

Direct laser deposition (DLD) is gaining interest as a technique for repairing previously unrepairable components especially within the aerospace sector where large cost benefits can be made by increasing component life cycles. In this study the evaluation of DLD ti-6A1-4v microstructures under a range of processing parameters and mechanical properties under a controlled parameter set were examined for the application of repairing compressor blisk blades in a gas turbine engine. Deposited material microstructure was extensively characterised though SEM, TEM, EDS, EBSD and SRAS.
