Abstract
This dissertation is looking at the representation of the Civil War in three significant texts: Soldados de Salamina, La mula and Los girasoles ciegos. Approaching this representation is important since it is part of a controversial contemporary revival of the interest in the Civil War. Politics and art are the main disciplines involved in this process of the recovery of the historical memory. The three texts chosen are relevant due to their impact and to their diverse, sometimes opposite, depictions of the conflict, providing different visions of a past event for a contemporary audience. The analysis of how history and fiction intertwine in these three texts will be the base for the study of such representation of the war. Another aspects studied will be the conflicting representation of the two sides, Republicans and Nationalists, and the intention to recover the historical memory of real people who lived through the war. The texts will be also contrasted with the literary panorama of the Civil-War novel from 1936 until present-day Spain, going through the different waves in the literary production of the Spanish Civil-War novel.
