Abstract
Upper gastrointestinal (UGI) cancers refer to the group of cancers which involve the upper portion of the digestive tract. UGI endoscopy is the investigation of choice to detect these cancers. However, it has been previously reported that up to 11% of the patients with UGI cancers had a non diagnostic endoscopy within 3 years prior to their cancer diagnosis, highlighting potentially missed opportunities to diagnose these cancers earlier. The work presented in this thesis seeks to explore the key performance indicators for UGI endoscopy to improve the quality of endoscopy and reduce risk of missing cancers during endoscopic examination.
